Every year, the Bronx River Alliance leads canoe teams on a four-mile paddle down NYC’s only freshwater river—passing through the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, and the 182nd Street dam.

Funds raised will help provide over 1,000 children and families with access to the Bronx River Alliance’s free summer community paddle programs.

What's a Noma?

Team Noma takes its name from the endangered Noma-uma, the smallest native Japanese horse, once used by farmers for everyday labor—hauling and supporting daily life. Too small for war, these horses became trusted workmates in the fields. Like them, we’re here to show up, do the work, and move with purpose.

Hi there,

This May, I’m captaining a team—Noma Crossing—in the Bronx River Alliance’s 25th Annual Flotilla Fundraiser, a four-mile community paddle to keep the river vibrant, vital, and accessible to everyone.

As a Bronx native raising my family here, I care about what we leave behind. The Bronx River Alliance protects our air, water, and wild spaces—while helping families and young people reconnect with nature and each other. It’s a reminder that beyond our world-class zoo and beautiful botanical garden, the Bronx is a place where nature flows, thrives, and deserves protection.

If you’re able, I hope you’ll consider donating to support Team Noma Crossing. The team has done an incredible job so far, and we’re in the final stretch. We have just a few days left to reach our $2,500 to $10,000 goal by May 10.

Every gift helps ensure that kids growing up here know the Bronx holds not just resilience, but rivers we can reimagine, reclaim, and renew.

Thank you for supporting the river—and the work.

With gratitude,

-Jacquelyn Moore-Hill
